August New Moon - Fresh Perspective

The Super New Moon on August 11th at 5:59 a.m. EDT is also a solar eclipse with the Moon passing between the Sun and the Earth. The eclipse begins at 4:02 a.m. EDT, reaches its maximum point a few minutes before the New Moon at 5:46 a.m. and ends at 7:30 a.m. The eclipse will be visible in Canada, Greenland, Iceland, Scotland, the Nordic countries and most of Russia. Remember, sun protection should be worn at all times to view this crescent Sun. It’s also the peak of the annual Perseids meteor shower, occurring on Sunday night into Monday. Roughly 75 shooting stars an hour will pass overhead. Here, in the Northeast, it may be tricky to view the stunning sky as it’s expected to be cloudy. Although the astronomy may not be visibly evident, the astrological impact will still be felt.

This New Super Moon is all about Leo with the Sun, Moon, Mercury and the North Node in this sign. Leo – the lion, the king of the jungle – hear me roar! Mars is still retrograde and out of bounds and with the fiery energy, roaring is still a viable option with this excess of heat and energy.

Yet, there are other aspects bringing influence as well with the Sun being stimulated by Pluto, Venus squaring Saturn and Mercury being directly confronted by Jupiter.

Pluto asks the Sun to shine, to ignite and to reset in transformative ways. There’s a pull and tug between power and control, but stay in your own power and recognize this is all internal, it’s not relational. In relationship, Saturn wants Venus to commit, to act maturely and to be responsible. Both of these signatures ground the fiery energies of Leo and Jupiter.

Jupiter, in a tight orb with Mercury, gives a fresh perspective. Mercury is retrograde, so thoughts, insights and conversations are plagued by questions and doubts. But, these questions and doubts serve purpose. It’s good to question the status quo and it’s healthy to spend time with doubt. Each lends newness and the possibility of discovery. Be bold and brave in your thoughts, allow your mind to wander and breathe in the unfolding potential.

Jupiter and the nature of Leo bring buoyancy, joy and faith into the energy. This feels refreshing and is filled with possibility. The centering of Capricorn and the harmony of Libra introduce a lasting and abiding nature to any changes.

With a little effort, this New Moon is about the new. It’s about searching. It’s about breakthrough.

Remember it's an eclipse, so set intentions for the next 6 months. Who do you want to be? What ways do you fully engage in your life? How do you want to shine?

Take a few moments to reflect and express.

Dive into yourself.

Open your mind.

Welcome new thoughts and ideas.

Break through resistance and say YES to the new.

Happy New Moon.

As always, wishing you joy,
